Many of us would like to do more with our lives—from pursuing personal dreams to advancing in our careers—but our fears often get in the way and stop us in our tracks. Three women profiled in the half-hour documentary Living Courageously: The Spirit of Women provide compelling examples of how we can realize our aspirations, even in the face of crippling doubts and obstacles. Complementing the women’s stories are comments from Jane Seymour, actress and advocate.

Featured are: Alison Levine, (above, left) who beat a life-threatening heart condition and became an international mountain climber who led the first U.S. Women’s Mount Everest Expedition; Francine Ward, (above, right) who fell into drug and alcohol use as a teenager, but turned her life around and put herself through law school; and Sheila Hagler, (above, center) the first member of her family to go to college, who now runs a photography project for at-risk teens in a rural Alabama community devastated by Hurricane Katrina.
Living Courageously: The Spirit of Women is a production of Creative Expansions, Inc. The program is presented by KCTS/Seattle Public Television and distributed by American Public Television (APT). Executive Producer/Host: Helene Lerner. Producer/Director: Wendy Lobel. Editor/Co-Producer: Carolin Ehrenburg. Director of Photography: Scott Sinkler. Coordinating Field Producer: Alicia Stewart.
