Contact: Anita Rice
Manager, Multicultural & Women's Initiatives
North Castle Drive Armonk, NY 10504
Phone: 914-765-5635
Email: ajrice@us.ibm.com
The IBM company is structured into three regions: The Americas, Asia/Pacific and Europe/Middle East/Africa. To address the advancement of women specific to these regions, each geography has established a Women's Leadership Council. These councils have evolved as a result of the Women's Diversity Task Force in the U.S. The primary objectives of our regional women's councils are to: understand women's perceptions of issues and barriers to their advancement; develop recommendations to address issues/barriers; enhance networking opportunities for women; act as visible role models for women and provide insight to senior management on issues related to women.
In addition, IBM has Diversity Network Groups. These groups provide a way for IBM employees to be more effective by providing a forum that will enable them to do the following: meeting and learning, networking, mentoring and coaching, doing community outreach, planning and implementing social, cultural and educational events, developing professional skills, enhancing recruitment, and welcoming and sharing information.
One of the key issues cited by IBM women is the need to facilitate networking and communication amongst themselves-whether it be within their particular business unit or organizing function. To fulfill this need, quarterly teleconference networking calls have been established throughout IBM in an effort to provide a vehicle by which information on various topics of interest can be shared. The calls are generally hosted by senior women execs and include IBM women worldwide. Topics covered are a mixture of business issues, career and personal development.
