Three 18-year-old men in Colorado have been arrested, after they threw “large landscaping rocks” at passing cars, resulting in the death of 20-year-old, Alexa Bartell.
Bartell was driving her vehicle at approximately 10:45 when Joseph Koenig, Nicholas Karol-Chik, and Zachary Kwak threw the rock at her vehicle. By all reports, the men had thrown multiple rocks over a miles-long radius, before striking Bartell. At least 7 people were hit.
A $17,000 reward was offered to people who brought information that resulted in the arrest of those responsible for Bartell’s death. A spokesperson for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Jacki Kelley, said that the men were questioned on Tuesday and will be “advised of the charges against them.”
Kelley went on to explain how placing the men in custody has affected her family and community:
“They’re just so grateful. They’re still suffering from the greatest loss possible, but this is the beginning of the journey that they’ll be on next. This case touched a lot of people deeply. This was a beautiful young woman with her whole life in front of her who was simply driving home.”
