Have an extra $2 laying around? Here’s how to tell if it can be worth thousands.
The two dollar bill has been in circulation since the 1860s and has six different kinds of currency types. The design of the bill has remained the same since 1928 with a picture of Thomas Jefferson along with his home Monticello. On the bill’s back is the Declaration of Independence!
There is currently a system in place which can help those with two dollar bills find out how much their bill is worth. The United States Currency Auction allows people with two dollar bills to list their finds and some have been able to find out that their bills are worth up to 4,500 and some even worth over 20k.
Here is how you can tell if your bill might be worth some change. First you’re going to want to check out the bills’ seal and year. Bills that have red, brown, or blue seals printed between 1862 and 1917 could be worth up to $1,000, per IndyStar.
The older the bill the more rare it is and therefore worth more. However don’t be alarmed if your bill isn’t worth much, they’re definitely worth keeping around.
