Drinking a glass of red wine at the end of your hectic day may, in fact, be very beneficial to your health. According to the British newspaper The Telegraph, researchers at Washington University have concluded that drinking one glass of wine a week can boost fertility in women. Along with fertility advantages, red wine also benefits other aspects of a woman’s physical and mental health.
All of the results from the research on these health benefits come from light to moderate wine consumption, usually meaning just one glass a day. Please drink responsibly!
Fewer bug bites
The University of Nebraska has conducted research leading scientists to believe that consumption of wine can lead to a decrease in insect bites. The study reveals that bugs prefer alcohol-free blood in comparison to blood with alcohol in it. Therefore, the more responsibly you drink, the less you’ll be a target for insect bites!
Improved mental activity
Those who drink a glass of wine a day are less likely to develop dementia, according to a study conducted by The Central Institute of Mental Health. The alcohol works by lowering cholesterol levels, preventing blood from clotting too much, and improving insulin sensitivity to blood sugar levels, which might affect the development of dementia.
Weight management
Shockingly enough, women who drink wine in moderate amounts, were found to have a lower risk of becoming overweight when middle-aged, according to a report conducted by the Archives of Internal Medicine. The authors of the report noted that the women showed an increase in energy expenditure after drinking, which they suggested balanced out the additional calories in the alcoholic drink.
Fighting heart disease
According to the Mayo Clinic, a glass of red wine may also be good for your heart. The antioxidants in red wine may reduce blood clots and prevent artery damage from cholesterol.
