A winning Florida lottery ticket worth $44 million has expired without anyone claiming the prize.
The ticket was sold at a Sunoco gas station in Kissimmee, Florida, in June. Navjeet Khela, who owns the store, will still receive a percentage of the money. “It was a shock because I got a phone call pretty early,” he said, about hearing his business had sold the winning ticket. “This is truly a substantial amount of money.”
Florida Lottery officials said that 4/5th of the unclaimed $44 million will go into an Educational Enhancement Trust Fund, while the remaining 1/5th will be recycled back into the lottery.
