It’s normal to sometimes take on more than we can handle. This may leave us feeling tired or in an extreme case, exhausted. We can tell when our bodies are starting to feel run down, and it’s better to do something about it before it’s too late. Here are five ways to fill yourself back up when your tank is on empty.
Stay hydrated! You can’t live without water
If you’re feeling like you are on the brink of exhaustion, you may not be consuming enough water. Throughout the day, a lot of the water in our bodies is lost through normal activities – such as exercising or going to the bathroom; so it is important to stay hydrated and drink water to replace the water lost. Make it easy by investing in a water bottle to carry around with you wherever you go.
Avoid skipping meals
On a regular basis, we are asking our bodies to do a lot – to wake up early, to work eight or more hours, to exercise; the list goes on. If you’re facing exhaustion, your body is running with very little gas in the tank. Giving your body the fuel it needs to operate and stay on task is the best way to make sure the car doesn’t break down before you reach the destination.
Take a mental health day
Don’t bite off more than you can chew. It’s okay to take it easy! Sometimes, keeping yourself super busy isn’t always the best option. When you’ve slept eight or more hours and you’re still feeling run-down throughout the day, that means it’s time to take more than just a nap. Take time to ease your mind and breathe.
Enjoy the simple things
Hold onto things that make you happy. Feeling exhausted can really bring down your mood, especially if you’re prone to being irritable when you’re tired. If you’re having trouble shaking off a bad mood induced by exhaustion, bring things into your life that will brighten your day and make you smile.
GET REST!
Exhaustion is more than just about being tired, but that doesn’t mean that getting a good amount of sleep won’t help. Interrupted or restless sleep may be why you’re not getting as much rest as you think you are. Try to go to sleep earlier than usual if it takes you a while to fall asleep. That way you can still fall asleep with enough time to get a good amount of rest. If you feel your mind racing at night, try listening to relaxing music, reading before bed or aromatherapy to help ease your mind before falling asleep.
