Beloved film icon Sophia Loren has been hospitalized following a fall at her home in Switzerland. The incident left the actress with several fractures including her femur and her hip. She has received emergency surgery and has since been put into recovery. Her agent Andrea Giusti confirmed the good news via CNN.
On Sunday, a restaurant chain named after the actress shared a post on social media also confirming that Lornen had undergone surgery and that the surgery was “successful.”
“A fall at her home in Geneva today caused Ms Loren hip fractures. Operated with a positive outcome, she will now have to observe a short period of recovery and follow a road to rehabilitation,” the caption stated.
“Thankfully everything worked out for the best and the Lady will be back with us very soon. The whole team at Sophia Loren Restaurant takes this opportunity to wish her a speedy recovery. #sophialoren @sophialorenrestaurant.”
Loren was set to open up another restaurant in the “Sophia Loren” chain in Bari, Italy.
Her engagements and plans have been temporarily put on hold as she embarks on a journey of healing and rehabilitation. Despite the setback, her indomitable spirit and unwavering determination will undoubtedly guide her through this challenging phase.
While Loren’s adult sons Carlo Jr., 54, and Edoardo, 50, have been at her side, one key member of the family was missing. Loren lost the boys’ father Carlo Ponti in 2007 when he passed away from pulmonary complications.
“I miss Carlo a lot. Sometimes I feel so lonely,” she told PEOPLE of Ponti in 2009. “It’s not true that when time goes by, [pain] heals. It will be three years since he died. The first time I met Carlo, it was at a beauty contest. He had a wife, two children. I didn’t think it would happen. Little by little I knew he was the right person for me.”
