Here’s how highly effective women get their day started on a high note before the madness ensues (and what you can do to follow in their path).
Resist the urge of snoozing
Although it can be tempting to squeeze in a few extra minutes of beloved zzz’s, try to avoid it. In reality, snoozing may actually disrupt your sleep pattern. In the grand scheme of things, those additional 10 minutes aren’t make-or-break when you think about the contribution you can make for the day.
Stop and smell the roses
Take a moment to pause and take in your surroundings. Spending time in nature will allow you to reconnect with the simpler things that you’re grateful for––allowing you to change the trajectory of a groggy mindset.
Use an app that inspires you
Most of us have a morning practice that exercises our mind and body, but using an app that lays everything out for you while keeping you accountable is even better. If you’re finding it difficult to stick to a consistent schedule, there are plenty that you can use to track your progress and keep you motivated.
Add a song to your “dopamine” playlist
Chances are, you already have a playlist of songs that put a smile on your face and leave you feeling unstoppable. But how often do you keep it fresh and updated? Look for new ones regularly that will keep your spirits high.
Call up a person to offer encouragement
A random act of kindness goes a long way in brightening someone’s day (while also brightening your own). Contact someone with a good morning text or make a quick call to wish them well.
Stay informed, but resist sensationalism
It’s a good habit to stay on top of what’s going on in the world, but watch the media sources that may be exaggerating the truth. Also, don’t let current events drag you down. Instead, focus on what you can do about them.
Awaken your senses
Whether it’s lighting a sweet-scented candle or turning on your oil diffuser, treat your senses to something appealing or stimulating.
Mentor memorabilia
If you have a quote that gets you through each day, recite it back to yourself while looking in the mirror. And keep it in your thoughts throughout the day.
And the night before…
Tidy up your handbag
Your purse may have collected a lot of unnecessary stuff throughout the day–-snack wrappers, receipts, loose change, etc. Before going to bed, make sure to organize your bag down to the essential items you’ll need for the next day so that you won’t go crazy rummaging through to find them – everything will easily be within reach.
