According to Brigham Health, bloating makes our abdomen feel larger than usual and our intestinal gas can be the cause of it. The feeling of tightness and swelling in the stomach is quite discomforting and has a lot to do with our daily health habits. So, what can we do to reduce our belly bloat?
Eating too quickly
As hungry as you may be or as delicious as the food can be, eating too quickly will increase bloating. According to Brigham Health, eating slowly and consuming smaller and more frequent meals can help reduce a belly bloat. Medical News Today also discusses how eating too quickly increases the amount of air you intake which leads to bloating.
Avoid carbohydrates
Livestrong discusses several different reasons why carbohydrates can increase the stomachs bloat. One would be an abundance of fiber. Although some fiber is good, an excess of it can cause problems towards our digestive system. Medical News Today also states that fiber has important functions within the body such as regulating blood sugar levels; however fiber is hard for the body to digest. This can produce and excessive amount of gas.
Chewing gum
The Active Times, a fitness site, says chewing gum causes you to take in excess air, which fools the body into thinking that food is coming. So, your body starts to produce the enzymes that are needed to break down food.
Avoid carbonated drinks
Medical News Today says carbonated drinks can cause gas build up because it contains carbon dioxide. The best alternative to this would be water.
Don’t talk while eating
When talking, just like chewing gum, you’re intaking more air, mentioned by Medical News Today. There ends up being a build-up of gas in your stomach which leads to bloating.
