Some say that the libido fluctuates at different points in a woman’s life. It’s no surprise that pregnancy is one of these times since this is a period where women experience a variety of new sensations and emotions. Other symptoms might arise, such as a change in breast size or increased appetite. Safe to say that when your body is preparing to carry another human being, you’re going to feel the change. A heightened libido can be one of the perks of this change, so embrace it! Here are five ways a woman’s libido changes during pregnancy.
Your libido may increase
One of the better ways that your body changes during pregnancy is an increased libido late in the first trimester and in the second. Along with this increased libido comes increased vaginal lubrication and a hypersensitive clitoris due to extra genital blood flow.
You’ll have more sensitive breasts and increased blood flow
When you’re pregnant you’ll experience an increase in blood flow, especially to the sexual organs, breasts, and vulva. The increased blood flow leads to more sensitivity, which often results in a more pleasurable sexual experience with your partner.
You’ll experience a sense of relaxation
Just as your libido fluctuates, so do your emotions when you’re pregnant. The freedom from being considered overweight and having to be self-conscious about your size can be very relaxing. There’s also no stress about trying to get pregnant, so pregnancy can be a great time to become more intimate with your partner — and yourself.
Your hormones will change
An obvious and well-known side effect of pregnancy is a change in hormones because in the first trimester your estrogen and progesterone levels will rise — but don’t let this scare you. Around week 10, these increased hormone levels will drop off. At that point, you’re likely to experience less fatigue and nausea.
You’ll have a different relationship with your body
When you’re pregnant and going through all of these changes, it can seem overwhelming. It’s normal to experience a weight gain of 25 to 35 pounds in your 40-week pregnancy. While some find their growing figure to be uncomfortable, other women find that it gives them a whole new mindset and feeling about their body. With a fuller figure, many women find this is a time to experience more intimacy with their partner as they become more conscious of their body’s impressive abilities.
