Ellen DeGeneres, the television talk show host, announced she has tested positive for COVID-19 but is not feeling the virus’s ill effects.
DeGeneres, 62, revealed in a statement on Thursday on Twitter, writing, “Hi Everyone, I want to let you all know that I tested positive for Covid-19. Fortunately, I’m feeling fine right now. Anyone who has been in close contact with me has been notified, and I am following all proper CDC guidelines.”
“I’ll see you all again after the holidays,” she concluded. “Please stay healthy and safe.”
The Ellen DeGeneres Show has been filming without a live audience but has seen a mix of virtual and in-person celebrity guest stars since its premiere in September earlier this year.
The show, according to CBS News, will be taking a hiatus until 2021.
A few months ago, several former employees came forward, emphasizing that the show was toxic, racist, and a fearful workplace behind the scenes. It has also been revealed that a few producers were accused of sexual misconduct.
Although DeGeneres had apologized at the start of the new season, she notes that her intention was not to fool her audience.
“I’m a pretty good actress,” said DeGeneres at the time. “But I don’t think that I’m that good that I could come out here every day for seventeen years and fool you. This is me. And my intention is always to be the best person I can be. And if I’ve ever let someone down, if I’ve ever hurt their feelings, I am so sorry for that. If that’s ever the case, I’ve let myself down, and I’ve let myself down as well.”
