Heather McDonald is not afraid to poke fun at herself – even after an ordeal that left her in the hospital with a skull fracture.
The comedian, 51, who is perhaps best known for her appearances on Chelsea Lately, was hospitalized Saturday night after collapsing on stage during a standup comedy show in Tempe, Arizona.
On Tuesday, McDonald posted a video of the incident to her Instagram account, during which she spoke about how she was “double vaxxed” and had also received a booster, flu shot, and shingles vaccine. She went on to explain that she had traveled twice to Mexico and did comedy shows and meet-and-greets, and still “never got COVID.”
“Clearly, Jesus loves me the most, seriously,” she added.
Just moments later, she began to lose her balance before falling backward and hitting her head on the floor.
“When you faint on stage after you brag about being vaccinated,” McDonald wrote over the video.
PEOPLE reached out to the McDonald’s rep, who confirmed that she underwent extensive testing at the hospital after the incident, which occurred 3 minutes into her set.
“Thus far the tests have revealed no underlying medical issues that may have precipitated this event,” her rep said, adding that she did not consume any alcohol before the show. Her fainting spell does not appear to be COVID-related and her rep says she recently tested negative for the virus.
According to PEOPLE, members of the audience told TMZ that they at first believed that McDonald’s fainting spell was part of the fact due to the context of the joke. The outlet reports that the audience happened to include an EMT and nurse, who rushed to the stage to provide first aid.
We are glad to see that Heather is okay and able to make light of the scary incident!
