British-Australian actress and pop star Olivia Newton-John passed away on Monday after a long battle with cancer. She was 73.
Her husband, John Easterling, announced on her Facebook page, “Dame Olivia Newton-John … passed away peacefully at her Ranch in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends.”
He continued: “Olivia has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer. Her healing inspiration and pioneering experience with plant medicine continues with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, dedicated to researching plant medicine and cancer.”
In the 70s and 80s, Newton-John was one of the most well-known faces in Hollywood. She starred in the blockbuster hit Grease and dominated the charts with her pop hits like “Physical” and “You’re the One That I Want.”
She sold over 100 million records over the course of her career and has five No. 1 hits.
After her breast cancer diagnosis in 1992, she became an advocate for breast cancer survivors.
Her family urges that in place of flowers, donations be made to the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund.
