Next time your parents ask you when you’re going to settle down with a “nice boy” with a “decent job”, tell them you’re on that Diane Keaton wave!
The 77-year-old Hollywood veteran admits in an interview with AARP Magazine that she doesn’t spend her time dating.
“I don’t date,” she said. “Highly unlikely. I don’t remember anyone calling me, going, ‘This is So-and-So. I’d like to take you out.’ They don’t happen. Of course not.”
This isn’t the first time the Annie Hall star has opened up about her attitude towards dating.
Earlier this year, while promoting her most recent film Maybe I Do alongside Richard Gere and Susan Sarandon, she spoke with Extra, who asked her how long it’s been since she’s been on a date.
“Let’s say 15 years,” she answered. “They probably just thought, ‘Enough’s enough… she’s too weird.’ I’m kind of odd, but I’m doing fine.”
“Someday…someone will marry me,” she added, joking, “ Maybe one of these nice men today who have to deal with me today.”
Keaton has proven enough that she doesn’t need the help from a man in her life. In 1996, Diane adopted her daughter, Dexter, and five years later, adopted her son, Duke, raising both of them by herself.
Per Closer Weekly, she spoke about what being a mother has meant to her as a person.
“Motherhood completely changed me. My feeling is that with children, you really have to be your best self, always,” she said, adding, “I spent too long worrying about whether a man loved me or not. I found that raising a child was the most humanizing of all loves. It is unconditional.”
In 2019, she spoke with InStyle, stating that it’s been 35 years since her last date. Despite saying 15 years in her most recent interview, her lack of memory as to when her last date was just speaks on how little she truly thinks about it.
“I have a lot of male friends. I have a lot of friends, but no dates. No mwah-mwah,” she told the magazine, noting that she “never” gets asked out.
