UPDATE 03/31/2023: Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson took to Instagram to confirm her sister’s tragic diagnosis, while requesting sensitivity from her fans, saying, “Yes, I’m very famous but normal s–t happens to me and my family & y’all need to realize that asap.”
As the Shannon/Thompson clan reels from this new information, the youngest member shared that the family is “very hopeful”, regarding Caldwell’s prognosis. She reportedly began chemotherapy last month. Caldwell has a rare form of adrenal cancer, which usually presents as benign, but has spread to her kidneys, liver, and lung.
“& this is what I mean when I say you never truly know what somebody is going through at home. No matter how famous they are,” Thompson said. Caldwell is a mother of two: 10-year-old Kaitlyn, and 8-year-old Kylee.
ORIGINAL ARTICLE: Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell, 28, the oldest daughter of reality TV star June “Mama June” Shannon, has reportedly been diagnosed with stage four cancer.
A family source reported that Anna was suffering stomach aches back in January before getting tests done which revealed a rare type of cancer called adrenal carcinoma had spread from her stomach to her kidney, liver, and lung.
According to Cleveland Clinic, “Adrenocortical carcinoma is cancer that forms in the outer layer (cortex) of the adrenal glands. There are two adrenal glands, one located at the top of each kidney,” adding that, “The adrenal cortex makes hormones — including cortisol, testosterone, aldosterone and estrogen. These hormones control male and female traits and body functions such as blood pressure and response to stress.”
The source revealed that Cardwell underwent initial chemotherapy treatments last month and the doctors are waiting to see how her cancer reacts before proceeding to the next step in treatment.
The source added that the family is “very hopeful” for her recovery.
While none of this is officially confirmed, further speculation can be made from one of her most recent Instagram posts that came about a month after Mama June’s wedding to Justin Stroud.
“Well I ain’t posted here in a while,” Anna started the caption to a selfie, her first post since last July. “Your girl is back sorry for the photo dump that’s going to happen hahah I love y’all and I hope y’all are having a good week.”
