Katy Perry is standing her ground on participating in a sobriety “pact” she made with her partner of seven years, Orlando Bloom.
Talking with People on Monday, while attending a cocktail tasting/promotional event alongside her American Idol co-judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, as well as the show’s host Ryan Seacrest, she revealed that she would not be drinking with her colleagues.
“I’ve been sober for five weeks today,” she admitted. “I’ve been doing a pact with my partner and I want to quit.”
Bryan then asked her if she was caving, to which she replied, “No, girl! I can’t cave. I made a promise. Three months.”
This isn’t the first time the “California Gurls” singer has decided to dedicate a period of time to sobriety. In 2013, following her divorce to her husband Russell Brand, she committed herself to a three-month detoxing program where she cut out alcohol from her diet.
“You know, I did a lot of different things,” Katy told Alan Carr at the time. “I surrounded myself with my good friends, I did this whole cleanse where I didn’t have any alcohol for three months—that was devastating—I did vitamins and supplements, and hikes and meditation and prayer.”
She again quit alcohol in January 2017 ahead of the release of her album Witness, where she told The New York Times, “I feel very empowered, extremely liberated, liberated from the conditioning of the way I used to think, spiritually liberated, politically liberated, sexually liberated, liberated from things that don’t serve me.”
Something Katy has now that she didn’t have the other times she quit alcohol is her new non-alcoholic line of aperitifs called De Soi, which she co-founded last year with Morgan McLachlan.
Bloom has recently talked with People about how he and his partner are great supports for one another, especially now that they share 2-year-old daughter Daisy.
“I think we support each other because we are fans of one another, you know what I mean?” Bloom explained. “What she does is so empowering for young musicians with everything with Idol. Then she can go and put on a powerhouse show in Vegas. We support, it’s who we are. Katy’s a force and we both have these pools we swim in and we recognize each other’s pools and we go, ‘Hey, I’m over here. We’re doing this.’ And it’s great.”
