Who better to give some advice to a reality tv celebrity approaching a prison sentence than a fellow reality tv star who served time themselves.
Abby Lee Miller, former star of Dance Moms, gave Todd Chrisley her own tips on what to expect in prison and how she thinks he’s going to handle his time inside.
“He’s very bougie,” Abby told ET. “He is not going to be able to handle, like, the soap and the towels.”
“I think he’ll do some trade outs, there’s a way to survive in there,” she added.
Abby Lee previously served eight months in prison back in 2017 for tax fraud after allegedly hiding more than $755,000 in earnings from her TV show from the Lifetime producers, per Deadline.
The Dance Moms alum discusses the additional challenges that are present being a celebrity in a prison.
“When I went in, nobody even wanted to come to the front to get me,” she remembered. “There were volunteers that come and give you a tour and all that…no one would come except my dear friend, Michelle, who I still talk to at least once a week.”
Miller said that she had texted Todd two words as simple advice for him before he went in: “Be careful.”
More recently, Todd and Julie’s daughter Lindsie spoke about her own concerns for her parents now that they’ve been inside for nearly three months.
On the latest episode of Lindsie’s podcast, The Southern Tea, she had a conversation with her parents’ prison consultant Justin Paperny.
“You want to be strong and tell them that everything is going to be fine even though you’re questioning if everything is going to be fine,” Lindsie said.
Adding to how Abby Lee felt about celebrities’ struggles being in jail, Lindsie said, “One of my biggest concerns was the access to televisions. Do you think that people who have seen Chrisley Knows Best are serving in these camps?”
However, despite her concerns, she has been relieved to learn that both her parents were welcomed with “open arms” and that Todd looks “very good”.
“I feel so blessed with that. I have heard of other people reporting and that not being the case,” adding, “My last visit with my dad, I couldn’t stop telling him how great that he looked. He looks very very good. I told him, I said, ‘Even your hair looks better, a little bit longer and a little bit grayer.’ His nails aren’t completely bitten off.”
“His spirits are great. He is really just embracing the process there and making the best of the process there with the people that are also there serving time with him,” she continued. “He’s made great friends. He talks about his friends there.”
