Comedian and personality, Kathy Griffin, has been battling stage one lung cancer, despite never being a smoker. Griffin first announced her diagnosis in 2021, at which point she had to have a tumor removed from her lung, which she said had been “in there for 10 years.” At the time, Griffin said in a tweet,
“Hopefully no chemo or radiation after this and I should have normal function with my breathing. I should be up and running around as usual in a month or less. It’s been a helluva 4 years, trying to get back to work, making you guys laugh and entertaining you, but I’m gonna be just fine.”
Griffin had to have half of her left lung removed, telling Jimmy Kimmel that she was officially “cancer free”.
“Yes! So I’m cancer free. I don’t know why, I had a tumor, right? And I’ve never smoked, and it was in there for 10 years. So get this, they took it out, and they found it on another scan. So I go in, and here’s the thing: when you’re a comic, it’s horrible when the doctors want to do their material on you.”
Griffin spent this Easter in the hospital, receiving an MRI. While she posted a photograph of herself in a hospital, wrapped in a blanket and wearing a mask, she did not elaborate on why she was receiving the test. Celebrities rushed to comfort her in the captions, including Sharon Stone, who wrote that, “Got mine last week”, and Rosanna Arquette wrote, “What’s up? Are you ok. Love you.”
