Sources close to the production of “Yellowstone” have recently revealed to ET that the star of the series, Kevin Costner, will not be returning after finishing the current season.
Outlets have been speculating for weeks if Costner would return to the landmark project. While showrunner Taylor Sheridan and Paramount have been adamant that “Kevin Costner is a big part of Yellowstone and we hope that’s the case for a long time to come. Thanks to the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan, we are always working on franchise expansions of this incredible world he has built. Matthew McConaughey is a phenomenal talent with whom we’d love to partner.”
McConaughey is set to star in a spin-off series. Presumably, the original series, “Yellowstone”, will end relatively soon after Costner’s departure.
Costner, for his part, has claimed that the stories between both parties don’t match up. Representatives for the show have claimed that Costner had scheduling issues, while representatives for Costner suggested that the show’s direction was going off-course.
“The idea that Kevin was only willing to work one week on the second half of season 5 of Yellowstone is an absolute lie. It’s ridiculous — and anyone suggesting it shouldn’t be believed for one second,” Costner’s representative said. “Everyone who knows anything about Kevin is well aware, he is incredibly passionate about the show and has always gone way above and beyond to ensure its success.”
The new Sheridan production starring McConaughey has not released a title or additional cast members.
