Following the 2011 Golden Globes one of Hollywood’s most favored couples decided not to thank their agents, but someone who played a critical role in supporting their family unit: their surrogate.
Australian superstar Nicole Kidman and rock-star Keith Urban shared a public statement following the award-show where they expressed gratitude for all the public and private support they’d been receiving following the announcement of the birth of their second daughter Faith Maraget Kidman Urban.
“Our family is truly blessed, and just so thankful, to have been given the gift of baby Faith Margaret. No words can adequately convey the incredible gratitude that we feel for everyone who was so supportive throughout this process, in particular our gestational carrier,” the married couple said.
The couple met in 2005 before eventually marrying in 2006, and while Kidman had two children from her previous relationship with Top Gun star Tom Cruise, she and Urban wanted children of their own. The only problem being the couple’s tragic struggles with infertility. The couple’s perseverance paid off as they welcomed a beautiful baby girl, Sydney Rose Kidman Urban, into their lives in 2008.
Kidman spoke about her and her husband’s battle to start a family on Australia’s “60 minutes” where she dissed out details about the process. Kidman told interviewer Karl Stefanovic about the love she had for the surrogate who carried Faith Maraget, saying that the birth was “ so deeply, emotionally moving.”
Later in that same vein Kidman got emotional as she spoke about the gratitude she had for her surrogate and the pains she’d faced when dealing with the process. “Anyone that’s been in the place of wanting another child, or wanting a child, knows the disappointment, the pain and the loss that you go through trying and struggling with fertility is such a big thing…I’ve had a very roller-coaster ride with fertility. I just have, and it has never been easy for me so to now be in this place where I have two gorgeous adopted children and two biological children, I can’t believe that’s what’s happened in my life, you know,” Kidman said.
Stefanovic asked if Kidman shared the same emotional bond with her newborn that she did with Syndey Rose, who Kidman gave birth to herself at the age 41. Kidman responded with a mother’s love as she said, “ Yes. Yeah. I mean, but it’s the same when your children are adopted as well. I think children are children. You’ll die for your children and when you feel that as a parent, I mean, that’s the unconditional love and people can talk about it and until you feel it, you can’t quite grasp it.”
