Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks are opening up about their secret to keeping a strong relationship with their grandchildren. Hanks and Wilson have been married since 1988 and since then have had two children together including Truman and Chet Hank and Hanks also had two previous children from marriage Elizabeth and Colin Hanks.
They have three granddaughters in total from Colin with his daughters Olivia and Charlotte and Chet’s daughter Michaiah.
Hanks spoke with ET about his role as a grandfather. “All you gotta do is love those little brats and they’re better than TV,” Tom said, beaming, before quickly adding, “They’re not little brats, they’re extraordinary young women.”
Wilson was quick to add, “They are extraordinary women.” Wilson spoke with ET as well where she discussed her favor tactics when it comes to becoming the best grandmother. “You got to get on the trampoline with them, you got to get in the pool with them, you got to get on the tennis court, you got to do all the sports. You just got to hang out,” Wilson said.
Her husband added in that his tactic included making his grandchildren’s macaroni and cheese perfectly for them.
Hanks’s son Colin spoke with the Today show where he gave his opinion on Hank and Wilson’s approaches. “It would be great if they paid attention to the kids’ bedtime,” Colin joked before adding that when his children are with their grandparents they receive ‘a lot’ of sugar.
Tom Hanks has notably been a family man including his 2020 Golden Globe speech where he thanked his family on stage. “A man is blessed with a family sitting down front like that,” he said while accepting an honorary Golden Globe. “A wife who is fantastic in every way, who has taught me what love is. Five kids who are braver and stronger and wiser than their old man is.”
