Keanu Reeves saved us all from the Matrix and now he’s here to save us from the unanswered question: what happens after we die?
While appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Reeves decided to tackle the question. After Colbert brought up the question, casually, to Reeves who responded with some heartful insight. “I know that the ones who love us will miss us.”
Sadly, Reeves has had too many encounters with death for him to give any other response. Reeves tragically lost his first born daughter after she was a stillbirth which ultimately took a toll on the relationship between him and the child’s mother.
Later the child’s mother, Jennifer Syme, was killed in a horrific car accident.
Some of his fans can see a connection between Reeves’ tragic past and the past of one of his most loved characters, John Wick. Reeves spoke to The Guardian about his connection with the character.
“Oh yeah, I thought it was one of the foundations of the role for John Wick. I love his grief.
“For the character and in life, it’s about the love of the person you’re grieving for, and any time you can keep company with that fire, it is warm. I absolutely relate to that, and I don’t think you ever work through it. Grief and loss, those are things that don’t ever go away. They stay with you.”
