Recent revelations made to The Hollywood Reporter suggest that Gerry Turner, the first Golden Bachelor, may not be so golden, after all.
“I’ve dated a number of times since Toni’s passed, more recently than back closer to when she’s passed,” Turner said to PEOPLE. “For one reason or another, the attempts didn’t work out. I could give you a wide range of reasons, but it doesn’t really matter.”
One of his past girlfriends, known only as “Carolyn”, wants to set that record straight.
Carolyn claims she worked with Turner while his wife was still alive. When she passed suddenly, Turner reached out to Carolyn to donate his late wife’s clothing and thanked her for her support by taking her to dinner.
“When Carolyn and Gerry first started dating [in September 2017], my husband and I took them to an Iowa [Hawkeyes] football game,” Carolyn’s friend, Susan, claimed. “I thought, ‘This guy’s legit. This guy’s a really good guy for her.’”
Carolyn says that many of the lines Turner used on the ‘Golden Bachelor’ contestants sounded familliar to her, especially an exchange between he and Leslie, where he told her, “I have to have you with my morning coffee, I have to have you when I go to bed at night…”
Turner and Carolyn’s relationship ended when Carolyn gained about 10 lbs. before Turner’s high school reunion, causing him to say, “I’m not taking you to the reunion looking like that.”
