Jada Pinkett Smith is opening up about the moment she realized she was never going to leave Will Smith. In an interview with the Daily Mail’s YOU Magazine, Pinkett-Smith said that the infamous 2022 slap altercation between her separated husband and comedian Chris Rock at the Academy Awards sealed the moment she knew she would never leave Will.
“I nearly didn’t even attend the Oscars that year, but I’m glad I did,” Jada told the outlet.
“I call it the ‘holy slap’ now because so many positive things came after it.”
Pinkett-Smith continued to explain how she’d been debating whether or not she would leave Will. Pinkett-Smith has disclosed that Will and her have been separated for the past seven years.
“That moment of the s— hitting the fan is when you see where you really are…After all those years trying to figure out if I would leave Will’s side, it took that slap for me to see I will never leave him. Who knows where our relationship would be if that hadn’t happened?”
Jada said that when the slap incident first was taking place she wasn’t sure if what she was seeing was a skit but nonetheless she was going to stay by Will’s side.
“I’m going to be by his side,” she added, “but also allow him to have to figure this out for himself.”
