A grandmother and her infant granddaughter were rescued, after their car crashed and ended up submerged underwater in a flooded ditch.
A video of the rescue was released by WESH Florida. A transcript, read in part:
“She’s in water. Is the baby above water? She’s above water. Is the baby above water? Yeah, the baby, baby’s breathing. Watch your eyes. Let’s get the baby out.”
The baby’s head was just above water level when she was removed from the vehicle. The grandmother was reportedly bleeding heavily and struggled to remove herself from the car, even with the help of the authorities.
“Due to the actions of the deputies and the fire department, they survived this crash,” Rick Staly, Flagler County Sheriff said. “So it could have had a very different outcome and tragic start to 2024, but instead it was a really remarkable and happy ending.”
