Being around misleading people can be stressful. Sometimes a close friend, or even a family member, ends up stabbing you in the back. Staying away from these people is often easier said than done, and they can have a toxic hold on you. Here are a few signs to watch for to see if someone is being dishonest:
See the signals
When people are lying, they usually show physical and verbal signs. These signs range from avoiding eye contact to stuttering and hesitation when talking. The harder they try to pretend that they’re being truthful, the more these signs show.
They don’t really answer your questions
When you ask them a question, they are not straightforward. Deceitful people may avoid answering a question instead of lying on the spot. They use selective wording to make it seem as if they answered, but really it’s nothing but an empty response.
Keep an eye out for “hidden” emotions
Dishonest people will smile to your face as they insult you. They are filled with back-handed comments that hurt your feelings, and they insist that they are “just kidding,” when they really aren’t.
They hang out with people who don’t like you
The minute you tell them something personal, they run to your frenemy. Next thing you know, everybody knows about your personal life. They insist that their friendship with these people has nothing to do with you, but something in your gut tells you not to trust them.
They don’t take responsibility for their actions
When you confront them about their backstabbing behavior, they try to save themselves by blaming other people. They will twist others’ words to make themselves look like angels, when they’re really the devils.
