Resilient people have figured out they cannot let stress take control of their lives. Instead of succumbing to the anxiety created by stressful situations, resilient people have learned how to manage their stress with a myriad of strategies that you can use too.
Exercise
Resilient people get physical! They know that regular exercise helps keep stress and anxiety at bay. When you’re feeling overwhelmed or know that you are heading into a stressful season in your life, be sure to preempt the dangers of stress by being proactive and getting regular activity.
Breathe
When resilient people are faced with stressful situations, they know that in the moment if they can calm their minds things are destined to improve. You may not be able to engage in a full meditation in the middle of a stressful situation, however if you can simply calm yourself by breathing for 10 seconds or more, your stressful symptoms improve.
Talk
Resilient people tend to have a close friend or confidant who is able to serve as a listening ear when stressful situations get the better of them. Instead of keeping all of your frustrations bottled up inside, consider sharing your thoughts with a trusted friend or even a therapist. By all means get it out by talking.
Write
Sometimes there is no one around to talk to, or the people you would normally talk to you are not available to hear your concerns. In that case, writing can be a helpful way to release tension and stress. Have you ever considered keeping a journal? Many people who journal on a daily basis find that they can keep their mental clarity high and their stress contained by getting their thoughts out on the page. Try it!
Get present
When you live too much in the future, anxiety is bound to breed. If anxiety is at the root of your stress, consider ways that you can get better connected to the present moment. How can you center and still yourself so that you are operating in the here and now instead of worrying about what may happen tomorrow, next week, or even next year? As they say, the present is a gift, so get in touch with it and watch your stress dissolve.
