Let’s face it, these days so much is changing around us, and sometimes it’s hard to get a grip. Feelings of loss, fear, anger, and sadness may surface at any moment in time, and you may feel like everything is out of control. What can you do when you are feeling so “raw,” especially when you have to carry out your day-to-day responsibilities? The following may help you when you feel pulled under.
Be particularly good to yourself
Yes, put yourself into “intensive self-care.” That means no “shoulding” on yourself. For example, “I shouldn’t be feeling this way,” or “I should have finished more of the work….”
Have compassion for yourself
Yes, we all want to feel on top of things, but no one ever does all the time. Remember, when you compare yourself to how someone else is doing, you are setting yourself up for “despair.
Remember that your feeling vulnerable is not all of you
You have many strengths, even though you may not be in touch with them right now. You are like a great tapestry with a mixture of feelings. All your different sides make you uniquely YOU.
Take your mind off it
Look around you, see what’s happening with other people who are close to you. How are they feeling? Get involved in their life and take the focus off yourself. Even when you are feeling down, you still have the ability to contribute in small ways.
Spend time with people who really care about you
This is not the time to go on a new adventure, or out with someone you do not know or may not trust. Stick with those closest to you, and reach out to them if you need someone to talk to.
