Abuse comes in many forms. Physical abuse is traumatizing but playing on ones emotions can be just as disturbing. Here are signs that you are being mistreated.
Lots of scrutiny
No matter what the situation, this person always has something negative to say about you—you’re constantly being criticized for the things you say and do.
Loss of your own voice
Communication is key to any relationship, but your partner’s careless actions such as their never ending put downs, bullying, and mindless jokes make you afraid to speak your mind. This can results in a lack of communication, resulting in a vital loss to an important part of your relationship.
Wanting to avoid them
You may start spending less time with your partner due to their negative actions—guilt trips, blaming everything on you and this self-isolation makes you feel lonely. How ironic considering relationships aren’t supposed to be a one man show.
“Can’t live without you”
The abuser may try to keep you under their grip by making you feel it’s your fault— that if you leave them they may do something drastic. You don’t have to stay with someone who makes you unhappy. They don’t have the power to control you unless you let them.
Zero concern for your feelings
Relationships are meant to be a comfort zone, not a war zone. An emotionally abusive person can be draining because they don’t care about the way you feel and are neglectful. There is nothing replenishing about this relationship.
Very manipulative
Abusers thrive on getting your hopes up by doing something romantic or showing you with compliments after they’ve done something abusive. They do this because they know you cling to the hope.
Other signs that suggest you are not being treated right are— extreme moodiness, withdrawal of affection, and isolating you from loved ones.
