The path to forgiveness can be a long and punishing one when you hold onto the anger caused by the one who hurt you. Forgiveness doesn’t have to be a hard task and there are many ways you can achieve it.
Do it for yourself
By mulling over what that person did and how much it upset you, you’re only prolonging the hurt. Start thinking of yourself. Forgive whoever it is, not for them, but so you can be free of stress and have a peace of mind.
Is it just you?
Think of how much you value forgiveness and how much it means to you. Everyone makes mistakes. If it were you who screwed up, you would want them to forgive you too.
Zoom out
Think about how many others have experienced the same situation. Know that you are not alone. If others can overcome it, then guess what? So can you.
Don’t fight fire with fire
Just because they might’ve been unkind to you doesn’t mean you act the same way toward them. Show them that no matter what has been thrown your way, you will find a way to overcome it without turning stone-hearted in the process.
Welcome happiness
The best type of revenge is to live a truly happy life. Instead of getting back at them, get happy. Remember that whatever you put out into the universe returns back to you. Be more loving with your thoughts and actions, and the same will come back to you in tenfold; when it does, you’ll no longer care for what hurt you.
