Drifting apart in a relationship is totally natural. It would be impossible to maintain all of the connections that we make throughout our lives on an immediate level. But there is a difference between going our separate ways because of natural causes that can’t/shouldn’t be remedied and losing touch with someone who should still play a part in our lives. Here are five situations when the latter is the case …
If it is someone you can really trust
There are certain people in our lives that prove themselves trustworthy with everything we confide in them about. Even if they move halfway around the world, keep in touch with this person. Knowing you can trust them with whatever you’re going through is an invaluable gift to have.
If it is someone who has always been there for you
The person who has proven time and time again to show up for you, no matter the weather, is someone to keep in your life. Even if you haven’t spoken to them in a while or feel like you don’t have that much in common anymore, loyalty is something that isn’t very easy to come by.
If it is someone you still think about all the time
If you constantly wish you could share something with this person but stop yourself because it’s been a while since you both connected, reach out (even if it feels a little uncomfortable)! If they have weight in your mind, then they still have relevance in your life.
If it is someone who won’t judge you
A person you can talk to about anything, even about the things you’re ashamed of, is an important person to have in your life. You would go crazy holding things in if you didn’t have this set of ears around to listen to your thoughts and answer your questions.
If it is someone who still adds something to your life, challenges you and helps you grow
You might be thinking: why would I drift apart from someone who does all of these things for me? Well, life can get busy and complicated. You forget to make time for each other and slowly forget that they add all of these great things to your life. But when you need advice on something or need a little push, they are the best person to turn to.
