Wouldn’t it be great if you could eat breakfast, plan your outfit and be ready to leave the house all before you woke up? Unfortunately, there’s no product that can hack this crucial step in the morning. However, there are ways to help you wake up so the transition from blissful dream to rude awakening will be a little less jarring.
Drink a glass of water
According to Business Insider, successful people drink a glass of water immediately after waking up because it increases alertness. One of the biggest indicators of lethargy is that you are dehydrated, and the best way to combat this is to start off with a big glass to replenish what you may have lost overnight.
Drink lots of water before bedtime
A sure way to make sure you get out of bed and stay out of bed is to fully hydrate yourself the night before. You’ll need to use the bathroom when you wake up, and getting up and moving around will make it difficult to knowingly return under the covers. It will also help if you turn on your bathroom light, as the brightness will stymie your body’s efforts to hole up under dark, muted covers.
Open your blinds the night before
Rolling up your blinds before you go to sleep will allow the day’s natural light to enter your room, indicating that you should get out of bed. Natural light was nature’s alarm clock back in the day, so this is a sure way to mildly pester and deter yourself from succumbing to deep, dark sleep.
Set your alarm to an unexpected noise and place it across the room
Waking up to a noise that sounds out of place can be disorienting and can momentarily force your brain to try and register it. Whale noises or ocean waves are more tranquil options compared to loud guitar solos or heavy beats, and you’ll wake up wondering if you’ve been transported to a vacation spot. Either way, you’ll need to get out of bed to turn off the slightly pleasant but still unharmonious noises. Once you’re standing, it will be harder to justify slipping back under the sheets.
Set your alarm later, but not too late. Be realistic.
Rather than continuously pushing the “snooze” button on your alarm clock/cell phone, it could be a lot easier to take a risk and set your alarm just a tad later. If you set your alarm at just the right time, you have no choice but to spring out of bed. This way, you’ll also gain just a little more sleep rather than grumpily face the loud alarm various times to add insult to injury. The pressure to wake up instantaneously could also raise your heart rate, and keep you awake!
