Matt LeBlanc is opening up about a difficult time in his life, after his young daughter, Marina, was diagnosed with cortical dysplasia.
Cortical dysplasia is a disorder that affects motor control, speech, and may involve epilepsy-type symptoms that can lead to developmental delay or learning disabilities.
“My daughter was diagnosed with a brain problem,” LeBlanc said. “It was a very dark period, but we were able to get through it — don’t they say what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger?”
Marina improved, however the effect on LeBlanc’s outlook was palpable.
“I didn’t feel like being funny. I had a lot going on in my personal life. I knew I wasn’t missing out on anything. I had dabbled with the celebrity world.”
“For years and years, I barely left the house. I was burnt out,” he stated. “Most actors call their agents and say, ‘What’s going on?’ I’d call mine and say, ‘Please lose my number for a few years’. It was a very dark time. I almost had a nervous breakdown.”
Now, father and daughter are healthy and happy…even though LeBlanc says “I don’t think she thinks I’m too cool.”
