The results were shocking, as men were determined to be more attractive as they age, while women were deemed less attractive with every decade, with the greatest drop coming after the age of 40.
One of the main factors in the decline of women’s attractiveness, according to the study, is the perceived childbearing capabilities. Previous studies have linked facial attractiveness and fertility, showing that they are closely associated with one another.
Another factor might be that as time goes on, both men and women undergo a change in their appearance that renders a more masculine appearing jawline, which enhances the perceived masculinity in men while destroying the perceived femininity in women. These findings reinforce the notion that aging and attractiveness are related, and there are differences in the aging penalty between genders.
