Sometimes marriages spoil no matter how hard couples try to make it work; and sometimes they’re doomed from the start. But what is the deal with “It’s Always Sunny” actor Danny Devito and Rhea Perlman?
The couple tied the knot in January 1982 after dating for eleven years. Sadly the couple announced in October 2012 that after 30 years, they would be going their separate ways–only to turn around and reunite in March 2013 for another four years. But the two, even to this day, are still married.
Perlman spoke with People Magazine about the dynamic between the former lovers and the adjustments she had to make. “It was very difficult at first. And there were a lot of reasons that we separated, which I’m not gonna go into. But it took time for us to come to this somehow pretty decent understanding and relationship with each other…And we are still very good friends and we see each other a lot. And our family is still the most important thing to both of us.”
Her ex-husband spoke sparingly about the situation.“We’re friends,” said the actor. “We’re happy. Everybody’s happy.”
But how do they make it work? In 2019 Perlman explained why she would never divorce Devito. “I don’t know why it’s difficult for other people, but Danny and I have always loved each other and we have three amazing children together,” Perlman said. “We really agree on almost everything important.”
She continued, “You know, we were together for 40 years. 40 years is a long time, you might have to do something else!”
