Earlier this year we watched as Vanna White fought for her equal rights in the workplace. The shocking news that White had not received a pay raise in 18 years despite her irreplaceable role on Wheel of Fortune left many of us wondering, did her age have anything to do with the lack of pay raise.
According to reports, at the time that Pat Sajak stepped away from Wheel of Fortune he was making more than five times more than White. So how did one half of the most iconic TV duos get the short end of the stick?
White’s attorney Bryan Freedman plans to argue that the lack of pay bump is due to gender discrimination. Rumors swirled that White will ask for 50% of what Sajak made before his departure, but a source close to White reported otherwise.
“Fifty percent of Pat’s salary is so outrageous that no one in their right mind could say that it’s fair,” the source said. “The negotiation is asking for much more than 50% of his salary. It’s asking for the same pay—if not more.”
Sajak announced his departure from ‘Wheel of Fortune’ on June 12 with a tweet. “Well, the time has come. I’ve decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last. It’s been a wonderful ride, and I’ll have more to say in the coming months. Many thanks to you all. (If nothing else, it’ll keep the clickbait sites busy!).”
