Brad Pitt just sold his 1.9-acre estate in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles for $40 million, which included a string of houses he bought in the nearly 30 years he resided there.
In 1994, Pitt bought his former house from the Elvira film series star Cassandra Peterson for a reported $1.7 million, according to People. He went on to buy all the remaining available houses in the small corner of his LA neighborhood.
While living there, one of the homes he purchased belonged to an elderly widower named John, whom Peterson tells People didn’t pay a cent in rent once Brad moved in.
“I think there were like 22 houses that were contiguous to the edge of the property. And every time they came up he bought one,” Peterson explained, who remained Pitt’s neighbor after selling him the property all those years ago.
Right away, Brad became familiar with his elderly neighbor John, and Peterson remembers Brad being nothing but sweet to him.
“He was very, very kind to the husband,” she says. “His wife passed away and the husband, John, lived there. I know that Brad allowed him to live there without paying anything until he died.”
What started as a grand gesture of kindness and compassion, might have been something that lasted longer than Brad had initially anticipated, says Peterson.
“It was kind of funny,” she says, “because John lived to be 105.”
“I imagine Brad was thinking well, you know, he can live there till he dies, which might be any minute now,” adds The Munsters remake alum.
Although John might have lived a little longer than anyone had expected, Peterson seems to think that Brad was happy to have taken that burden off his neighbor’s shoulders, sharing that Brad has always been “kind and sweet”.
She shares a story of an encounter she had with her Oscar-winning neighbor when he was preparing for his role in the 1999 cult classic Fight Club.
“I go past Brad’s garage and he’s in there wearing only sweatpants,” she remembers. “He’s got on boxing gloves and he is punching a bag. I swear I almost fainted.”
“I remember he goes, ‘Hey, how are you?’ and I’m like, ‘Huh?’ I couldn’t talk,” she admits. “I was turning red. I felt like I was fainting. He’s just so stunningly, stunningly handsome — and nice, to top it off.”
Brad has decided to sell his estate after living there for nearly 30 years and having raised his six children with Angelina Jolie. Now divorced, and his youngest, twins Knox and Vivienne, being 14, Pitt is seeking a smaller residence seeing as though he doesn’t need all the extra space anymore.
Who knows, maybe he wanted to see it to the end until John passed away. Seems like something he’d want to do after reading what Peterson shared on his character and kindness.
