Thirty years following the finale of the hit show ‘Cheers’ lead men Ted Danson, George Wendt, and John Ratzenberger joined show co-creators James Burrows and Les and Glen Charles for a night of laughs, booze, and reminiscing. The panel gathered at the ATX TV Festival where they looked over the show’s pilot script which was then acted out by multiple other talents.
Ten years prior to this panel the cast of Cheers gathered for another celebration; 30 years since the premiere of the TV show. Cheers went on to produce 11 seasons and won almost thirty Emmys during its eleven-year run which ended in 1993.
Not in attendance was the late Kirstie Alley. Fellow cast members recalled fond memories of her talent and humor, with Ted Danson saying, “She played a woman on the verge of a nervous breakdown better than anybody.”
Though the show was not an initial hit, cast member, Glenn Charles, has said, “Well, our early readings, as has been alluded to, we’re abysmal and finished way down all the time until the summer remanence came around. But we knew, and I think the cast knew, that we were doing something good because we had a live audience every week. This before the show was even on television. And the live audience was giving a response — they knew these characters, even though they had never seen them on television.”
