On Today, the actress revealed her MS diagnosis in August 2021 via a Tweet.
“Hi friends. A few months ago, I was diagnosed with MS,” she tweeted. “It’s been a strange journey. But I have been so supported by people that I know who also have this condition. It’s been a tough road. But as we all know, the road keeps going. Unless some a—— blocks it.”
Per Mayo Clinic, MS is an autoimmune disease that attacks the central nervous system. It can cause permanent damage to the nerves in the brain and spinal cord and has no cure.
According to People, MS isn’t the only health issue Applegate has faced. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 and had a double mastectomy and her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed in 2017.
In 2018, she expressed to People that she strives to help others feel less alone with their health issues.
“If you do have a voice to do it, which we as actors are fortunate to have this platform to be like, ‘I am just like you, I can’t sleep, I feel like crap a lot of the time because of this, but I want you to feel okay with it and not feel shame about it and get information about it so that you can have a better quality of life,'” she said. “And same goes for my battle with cancer.”
According to E Online, Applegate has been exercising in the form of rowing to help manage her health.
“With MS, most exercises can be scary due to numbness in feet and legs,” she tweeted. “So sitting and knowing I’m still using my body is awesome.”
Applegate celebrated her 50th birthday in November 2021. She tweeted, “Yup. I turned 50 today. And I have MS. It’s been a hard one. Sending so much love to all of you this day. Many are hurting today, and I am thinking of you. May we find that strength to lift our heads up. Mine currently is on my pillow. But I try.”
Applegate shares a 10-year-old daughter, Sadie Grace LeNoble, with her husband, Martyn LeNoble.
The actress is most known for her role on Fox’s comedy Married…With Children. She has recently starred in the Netflix show Dead to Me. The show’s third season will be released on November 17, 2022.
