Kevin Costner says his hand was forced as he reduces ex-wife Christine Baumgartner’s credit card limit. This is just another development in the ongoing legal battle between the former couple. The battle started when Baumgartner filed for divorce in May after 19 years of marriage. The couple shares three children together, Cayden, 16, Hayes, 14, and Grace, 13.
In legal documents obtained by US Weekly, Costner has said he “agreed to maintain the status quo with respect to our children”
“Christine says I have not maintained the status quo because I canceled one of her credit cards and because I put (a large) limit on the use of the credit card she uses,” Costner said. The reduction would allow Baumgartner to spend 30 thousand dollars a month. Finances have been at the center of most of Costner and Baumgartner’s tensions.
The decision to limit Baumgartner’s spending was outlined in a letter to Laura Wasser, Costner’s attorney. The letter stated that Costner was “left with no choice but to cancel.”
Baumgartner might also have forfeit her 1.5 million divorce settlement. After challenging the prenup she signed, Costner’s lawyers came back with saying it should be Christine paying for Costner’s legal fees since she’s the one challenging their prenup.
“Should any party contest the validity of this Agreement, or claim it is invalid in whole or in part, that party shall be liable to the other party for all witness, attorney, accounting and appraisal fees and costs incurred by the party defending the validity of this Agreement in the event this Agreement or any contested portion of it is adjudicated to be valid and binding,” the document states.
In June, Costner accused Baumgartner of using his credit card and charging over 90 thousand dollars. The funds were payable to Baumgartner’s legal team and forensic accountant. Earlier in the proceeding Costner claimed that Baumgartner refused to move out of their shared home despite Costner’s urging.
“I am not at all comfortable sharing my home with Christine or with her being on my property going forward. … Nor do I believe it is in our children’s best interests for me and Christine to occupy the same house or property, given the allegations she has made and positions she has taken and the unfortunate tension this has caused,” Costner wrote in court docs.
Ultimately a judge struck down her request to remain in their shared home.
In previous court documents Costner claimed that he wasn’t able to cover Baumgartner’s loft child support requests citing that since he was no longer under contract for his hit show Yellowstone and would be learning much less than he previously had.
