Country singer Toby Keith revealed in an Instagram post in June 2022 that he had been battling stomach cancer for 6 months, per People.
“I’ve spent the last six months receiving chemo, radiation and surgery,” he explained. “So far, so good. I need time to breathe, recover and relax.”
“I am looking forward to spending this time with my family,” he added. “But I will see the fans sooner than later. I can’t wait.”
At the time of the announcement, Keith, 61, was on tour for his album Peso In My Pocket. According to Country Now, all the tour dates after the diagnosis announcement were canceled.
Fans expressed their support for Keith on social media, per Today.
“Praying over you,” one fan commented under Keith’s Instagram post. “May the Lord completely heal you and comfort you and your family during this time.”
Shortly after the announcement, Keith thanked his fans in a tweet for their kindness, according to E Online.
“Thank you for all your love and support,” he tweeted. “I have the best fans in the world.”
The “Red Solo Cup” singer founded the Toby Keith Foundation in 2006. Its mission is to provide support programs for children with cancer.
The Toby Keith Foundation also started OK Kids Korral in 2014. It provides “a cost-free, convenient and comfortable home for pediatric cancer patients receiving treatment.”
