Courteney Cox now has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame after being in show business for over 30 years. From her first recurring role in 1987 on the show Family Ties with Michael J. Fox, to starring as her iconic clean-freak and chef character in Friends with Jennifer Aniston, she’s been around her fair share of star-studded casts.
But outside of Hollywood stars, she’s had a few run-ins with royalty, as well, specifically Prince Harry, who claims he and his friend got into a batch of magic mushrooms while attending an impromptu party at Cox’s house.
In Harry’s recent memoir, Spare, he detailed a story of when he was in LA in 2016 party-hopping with his close friend, and they ended up at Courteney’s house.
“We went from the home of [my friend] Thomas’ girlfriend to the home of Courteney Cox,” he wrote. “She was a friend of Thomas’ girlfriend, and had more room. Also, she was traveling, on a job, and didn’t mind if we crashed at her place. No complaints from me. As a Friends fanatic, the idea of crashing at Monica’s was highly appealing. And amusing.”
Harry also wrote about how he binged Cox’s hit sitcom, Friends, after his second tour in Afghanistan at a time where he rarely left the house and suffered anxiety from the large crowds he was constantly subject to as a member of the royal family.
“But then… Courteney turned up. I was very confused,” he continued. “Was her job canceled? I didn’t think it was my place to ask. More: Does this mean we have to leave? She smiled. Of course not Harry. Plenty of room.”
The story goes on to reveal he happened upon her refrigerator where he discovered “black diamond mushroom chocolates” and he and his friend proceeded to take a few. They both had very different experiences – Harry very much enjoying his time while his friend saw some frightening images around Courteney’s home.
“My delightful trip had been his hell,” he wrote. “How delightful. How interesting. I led him outside gently, and told him it would all be OK.”
Cox was interviewed by Variety regarding her star of the Hollywood Walk of Fame when the incident was brought up for her to address.
“He did stay here for a couple of days — probably two or three. He’s a really nice person,” she said. “I haven’t read the book. I do want to hear it, because I’ve heard it’s really entertaining. But yes, it’s gotten back to me about it. I’m not saying there were mushrooms! I definitely wasn’t passing them out.”
More recently, Courteney and Harry both attended Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi’s vow renewal party. However, Courteney said she saw him, but didn’t have the chance to say hello because he was conversing with other people.
So, will we ever know the truth about what happened that night in 2016? Maybe not, but if you ask this reporter… well, I didn’t hear her say no.
