“No Time to Die” actor Daniel Craig called inheritance “distasteful” an a 2021 interview with Candis
Magazine, stating he would instead give it away. “My philosophy is: get rid of it or give it away before you
go,” Craig said. Oh, and does Craig have a good amount to give away.
According to Variety, Daniel Craig was the highest paid actor of 2021. Shockingly, most of his earnings
did not come from his stint as James Bond. While playing Agent 007 for 15 years earned Craig
approximately $85 million, the check he received for agreeing to reprise his role as Detective Benoit Blanc
in Knives Out 2 and 3 alone was possibly over $100 million. People expanded on the insane amount of
money; saying Netflix reportedly offered this amount to account for the potential box office revenue of
both movies had they been released theatrically.
Craig’s claims about inheritance being “distasteful” prompted an article from The Guardian, voicing the
opinions of six Brits who could provide an inheritance to their children. Two of the six sources supported
Craig’s belief that inheritances should be used for charities.
One of the causes Craig has supported is the suicide prevention group called Papyrus. He sent a
pre-recorded video to the three fathers who champion the cause, all of whom sadly lost their daughters to suicide. Craig told the fathers via video, “What you’re about to do now is just truly heroic.”
A critical voice came from Independent writer Katie Edwards’s 2021 article titled “Daniel Craig’s ‘distaste’
for inheritance is galling for those who do have to worry about their kids’ futures.”
Edwards countered Craig’s comment that inheritances were distasteful, stating that inheritance gives
those who receive it a significant advantage and that many suffer to provide for their children with an
inheritance. But the comments under Edward’s article elicited their own mixed responses. One user under
the user handle TheZeitgeist defended Craig’s decision on how he intends to spend his $160 million. The
user commented: “Lame article. [Craig is] actually saying he should give it away rather than just pass it
down. Is that not a positive thing?”
Craig has recently embarked on a new philanthropy venture. As of January 2023, Craig is a Liverpool
Heart and Chest Hospital Charity ambassador. Craig spoke highly about his new position as an
ambassador, saying: “It is a privilege for me to support their incredible work
