UPDATE 12/20/2023: Hayley Erbert has another surgery scheduled today, this time to “replace a large portion of her skull” after her brain bleed.

Derek Hough is providing an update regarding his wife’s condition following her emergency brain surgery amidst their ongoing Symphony of Dance tour. Hough’s wife, Hayley, was hospitalized after she became disoriented and required an emergency craniectomy. An emergency craniectomy is a type of brain surgery typically performed in emergency situations, which relieves pressure on the brain.
Hough said that his wife is on the long road to recovery and shared a message via social media.
“Hayley has always inspired me with her will, her strength, and her resilience and no more so than in the last 48 hrs,” the Dancing With the Stars judge wrote Friday on Instagram. “She is now on the long road of recovery.”
“Words cannot express how grateful and thankful we are for the support and love that you have given us,” Hough continued. “The kindness that we’ve been shown in this incredibly unfathomable and life-changing time is immeasurable. The offers of assistance that have poured in have been so humbling and appreciated. Our hope is that as a family, we can somehow and some way pay it forward.”
The couple met on “DWTS” and began dating in 2015. They married in August 2023.
UPDATE 12/08/2023: Julianne Hough is asking fans for support during a time of stress for her and her loved ones.
The Dancing with the Stars co-host shared a social media post made originally by her brother Derek Hough announcing that Hayley Erbert, Derek’s wife, had undergone emergency surgery on her skull.
“Please pray and send all your love, healing and light to Hayley and Derek 🙏,” Julianne wrote. “Thank you from the depths of our families hearts!❤️”
According to Derek’s post, Hayley became disoriented after a Dec. 6 Symphony of Dance tour performance in Washington, D.C.. She was then transported to a local hospital where she was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma–or a collection of blood in the brain–and had to undergo emergency surgery.
The surgery usually involves removing pieces of the skull in order to alleviate pressure on the brain.
“I want to thank the first responders and medical personnel who have cared for and continue to care for her. I ask for your prayers and positivity during this time,” Derek added to his social media post. There is no word yet on whether upcoming tour dates will be postponed following Erbert’s health scare.

An Instagram announcement read in part: “At the end of last night’s tout performance in Washington, D.C., my wife Hayley became disoriented and was taken to the hospital. She was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel and required an emergency craniectomy.”
Hough and Erbert, both 38, have been dating since 2015, but married in August of 2023.
