Violet Large, 79, an ovarian cancer patient, won $11 Million on the Canadian Lotto 6/49. Rather than keep it for herself and her husband, Allen, she decided to donate as much as she could before she passed.
“We haven’t spent even one penny on ourselves,” Violet said, around 2011. “Why spend money when you already have everything you need?”
“What you’ve never had, you never miss. I’ve never been down and out, so what more do you want?”
“The money that we won was nothing. We have each other,” she said.
Violet and Allen, who described themselves as “good old country people”, donated their money to “family, churches, cemeteries, fire departments and several other organizations”.
Violet saved a limited amount of money to receive treatment for her cancer, but sadly passed in 2011, leaving behind Allen, her stepchildren, a legacy of generocity.
