There have been many famous celebrity feuds throughout history: Davis and Crawford, Letterman and Leno, Swift and West. But, you may not be familiar with one of the most hysterical celebrity feuds in recent memory: Kathleen Turner and Burt Reynolds.
Burt Reynolds was once asked who the most overrated actor of the 70s and 80s was. He didn’t miss a beat: “Kathleen Turner.”
Turner and Reynolds worked together in the 1988 film, Switching Channels. The pair immediately turned sour to each other, with Turner admitting,
“Working with Burt Reynolds was terrible. The first day Burt came in he made me cry. He said something about not taking second place to a woman. His behavior was shocking. It never occurred to me that I wasn’t someone’s equal. I called my husband and said, ‘I don’t know what to do.’ He said, ‘You just do the job.’ It got to be very hostile because the crew began taking sides.”
Later, Turner was asked who her worst celebrity kiss was, similarly, she had an answer prepared.
“Burt Reynolds. He sucked. I had rehearsed with Michael Caine. I was supposed to do the film with Michael Caine — good choice, right? Well, Michael Caine got caught on Jaws 4, the shark kept breaking down. I was pregnant and had a stop date, but [Caine] did not. So we shot everything we could without him and then finally, the producer went and hired Burt what’s-his-face.”
As Vanity Fair once said, no one burns a bridge like Kathleen Turner.
