A French couple has opted for a Happy Meal for their happiest day. In a viral video on TikTok, the couple showed how the crowd reacted to news of the reception being catered by McDonald’s. It was obvious that everyone was ‘lovin’ it.’
In an interview with PEOPLE, groom Thomas Billaudeau spoke about what motivated them to have the double golden arches be a part of their special day. “We had the idea because we are big fans of McDonald’s and jokingly said when we were younger that we would have McDonald’s at our wedding,” he says. “Eventually, we decided to go for it. People who know us weren’t surprised.”
He adds, “We only served McDonald’s food, including all the burgers from the menu. We didn’t serve fries or potatoes to avoid them getting cold and soggy.”
The couple was nervous about how the news would go over with certain aunts and uncles but according to them it was a successful hit. Thomas did go on to say that while he doesn’t ‘recommend’ couples using fast food for their wedding catering, he encourages couples to choose what they want and will make them happy on their special days.
“I believe everyone should do what they want for their wedding as long as there’s a good atmosphere and the guests enjoy themselves,” he adds.
Reactions on social media were mixed with some praising the couple for their affordable choice compared to the typical expenses that get dropped for reception meals.
The McDonald’s social media account joined the praises, dropping into the TikTok’s comment section saying, “It was a pleasure to participate in this superb day.”
