Marrying into the public eye can be uncomfortable, even if you’re as effortlessly elegant as Amal Clooney.
Since marrying George Clooney—once thought to be a confirmed bachelor—the esteemed human rights lawyer found herself thrust into the limelight and by extension, public scrutiny. Tabloids and magazines often make comments about her, most often centering on her low weight.
Many individuals and outlets have spoken about Clooney’s weight, with some even writing entire speculative articles. George Clooney, however, had a simple and apt response to those sticking their nose in her business: “She simply has no drawbacks.”
Since the couple married in 2014, they have welcomed two children: 6-year-old twins, Ella and Alexander. They were unsure at first if they would be a childfree couple, and say that the twins were a welcome surprise. In their press release for the childrens’ birth, they wrote,
“This morning Amal and George welcomed Ella and Alexander Clooney into their lives. Ella, Alexander, and Amal are all healthy, happy, and doing fine. George is sedated and should recover in a few days.”
Since then, the couple have focused on giving their children a strong moral center. Clooney made the rare comment about his parenthood philosophy to People.
“Just because you happen to have been born into a sort of lucky situation in many ways, certainly not into poverty and into some place of luxury, you want to make sure they’re empathetic and compassionate. That they learn all the things I was taught as a young man about how we’re only successful as a country as the people who are least successful. I think that’s going to be a challenge, to constantly remind our kids that being born in one place doesn’t give you the right to just ignore everyone else’s difficulties.”
