Gordon Ramsay, a man known for his quick temper and at times cruel demeanor is showing his vulnerable side in a recent interview with PEOPLE. In this week’s issue, Ramsay opened up about the death of his baby with wife Tana Ramsay in 2016. Tana experienced a miscarriage twenty weeks into her pregnancy, leaving the family reeling with grief.
“There’s no book that guides you through that loss, and so losing Rocky was really tough,” says Ramsay to PEOPLE. “Watching the trauma unfold, it’s this life-changing moment.” But Ramsay followed up by stating that the unimaginable loss brought him and his wife closer together. Tana and him share three daughters and two sons, one of which Ramsay says wouldn’t be here for it not the tragedy that occurred.
“We wouldn’t have had Oscar had we not lost Rocky,” says Ramsay. “There was no substitute — far from it — but it brought us a bond that you’d never experience in a normal situation.”
With the seven year anniversary in June of the tragic event, Tana shared a post to social media. “Although it’s 7 years today, it still feels like yesterday,” she continued. “We all miss you everyday. We love you Rocky, forever in our hearts. I couldn’t do this without my family, you are all everything to me 👼🏻🖤 xxxxxxxx.”
Ramsay called his wife “resilient” and credited her for the strength his children have. “That’s the power of Tana,” he adds. “Just watching the way that she dealt with it — and opened up with other friends and women in close proximity that could give advice — she was incredible straight after that…There’s a lot of things that Tana’s done, that we wouldn’t be here today without that strength.”
